How We Collect and Verify Exchange Data

Our data collection relies on manual review and automated crawlers, and it does NOT apply to non-military retail outlets.

Initial trial used user-submitted screenshot analysis, but we found that scraped metadata from official .mil and .gov sources was faster and more accurate. We now rely on a hybrid approach: automated crawlers capture product and price data from publicly accessible exchange listings, while our staff manually verifies seller authenticity using a 12-point checklist and FTC guidelines.

The data does not cover items from all exchange branches; sample size was limited to the 3 largest armed forces exchanges. This limitation is documented in our methodology.
