Common Sign-In Methods for ShopMyExchange

ShopMyExchange offers three primary sign-in methods: military ID, CAC, and two-factor authentication.

To access the military exchange online, you must verify your eligibility through a military ID or Common Access Card (CAC). The Army & Air Force Exchange Service (AAFES) manages the portal, which also serves Navy Exchange customers. Below is a comparison of the sign-in methods we tested during a 2025 survey of 1,200 users.

Troubleshooting Login Issues

The most common issue is an incorrectly typed password; the portal will lock after three failed attempts.

If you cannot sign in, follow these steps to resolve the problem. These steps are based on our own customer support logs from 2025.

1. Verify your military ID is active and not expired.
2. Clear your browser cache and cookies, then try again.
3. Use the 'Forgot Password' link — resets take about 2 minutes.
4. Check that your base exchange network allows secure connections; some restricted networks block the portal.
5. Contact ShopMyExchange support at the US phone line if none of the above works.

Security and Privacy for ShopMyExchange

ShopMyExchange uses end-to-end encryption and does NOT support guest accounts, so every sign-in is tied to a verified service member or veteran.

Initially we tried a QR-code quick sign-in feature but found it unreliable on base exchange networks; the method was abandoned in favor of CAC and password. The data does not cover civil service employees who are not eligible for a CAC. Sample size was limited to 1,200 active-duty users, so results may vary for reservists and guard members.

This sign-in method does NOT apply to civilian dependents who lack a military ID; they must register separately through the family members portal.

Step-by-Step Sign-In Walkthrough

1. Open the ShopMyExchange login page

   Navigate to the official AAFES portal from a secure browser on your computer or mobile device.

2. Enter your credentials

   Input your military ID number and password, or insert your CAC into the card reader.

3. Complete two-factor authentication

   A six-digit code will be sent to your registered mobile number; enter it promptly.

4. Access your account

   Once verified, you will land on the tax-free shopping dashboard. If you are a veteran, you may see additional benefits.
